GUESTS OF HONOR

ALDINA DUARTE
Aldina Duarte

Aldina Maria Miguel Duarte arrived late to Fado. Or, maybe more accurately, she didn’t get to it with the age that nowadays new voices are celebrated. Therefore, the apprenticeship after her epiphany whilst hearing Beatriz Conceição followed a different direction. She has a solid emotional baggage and a personal maturity that has never brought her into a diva-like attitude.

In 1992 Aldina Duarte stared at «Xavier» where she sang «A Rua do Capelão», shot in a street where the villagers begged for more. In the next year, she sang at the «Judite, Nome de Guerra» play, at Teatro S. Luís. It was the first time that she performed Fado in a stage. In 1995 and 1996, she joined the Clube de Fado permanent cast. And, in 1997, she moved to the Fados de Maria da Fé house of Fado, to perform «Sr. Vinho». In 2004, Aldina Duarte edited her first record with EMI. «Apenas amor» was widely acclaimed by the critics. After the record launch, Aldina made a series of shows in Portugal and overseas. It was followed by «Crua» and «Mulheres ao Espelho». In 2009, it was released on DVD the documentary «Aldina Duarte: Princesa Prometida» from Manuel Mozos, that premiered at Festival Indie Lisboa, having participated in several festivals all around the world and gain many awards. In the same year, Aldina Duartes participates in Eugènee Greens’ film «A Religiosa Portuguesa». In 2011, she released the album «Contos de Fados», in which all the lyrics are inspired in works of literature in the world. The Fado singer has more than 70 poems of her authorship registered at the Sociedade Portuguesa de Autores.
